This update will be a little different as we introduce another member of our team, but make sure to stick with us until the end, because we have some very exciting news!
Our good friend
I’d like to introduce you to Sucely, someone many of you may already know, especially if you’ve joined us on a trip to Aceituno. She is a vital part of Aliento, and her story is so inspiring.
I first met Sucely in 2020, when her son Jeff joined our formula program due to severe malnutrition. Thanks to her hard work and dedication, Jeff made great progress, gaining weight quickly and on track to graduate. But then In June 2020, Jeff got very sick. He was hospitalized with a serious respiratory illness, and while being treated, he had an allergic reaction to a medication that caused his heart to stop. The doctors were able to resuscitate him, but the damage was significant. Jeff was left with cerebral palsy, mostly deaf in one ear, and mostly blind in one eye.
It was a heartbreaking situation, but Sucely faced it with extraordinary strength and resilience. As a single mother of three, she has shown nothing but fierce love and devotion to her children. She tirelessly transports Jeff to school every day, ensuring he has as normal a childhood as possible. She takes him to therapy sessions each week and manages his countless doctor’s appointments throughout the year.
In addition to all of this, Sucely also works for Aliento, keeping our feeding program running smoothly. She doesn’t just do her job—she goes above and beyond to help wherever she can. From buying the vegetables to cooking to serving the food, she does it all. For over four years, we have been running the feeding program from her home, and from the very beginning, she has been a constant, dependable presence. But, she is not only a worker, she is our very good friend. We love her dearly and are so grateful for everything she does.
Please keep Sucely in your prayers, as well as the entire ministry, because she is an indispensable part of it. We are truly blessed to have her in our lives.
Personal Growth
We are doing really well, and we are so grateful for all that God is doing in our lives right now. God is working in our hearts in powerful ways, drawing us closer to Him, deepening our relationship with Him, and teaching us so much through His Word. It has been such a rich season of growth and reflection. We both feel that God has made it clear that 2025 is going to be a pivotal year for Aliento, and we are filled with anticipation for what’s to come. For the first time in a long while, I feel like Aliento is truly gaining momentum and moving forward in ways that we have been praying for. It’s a thrilling and encouraging time, and we are eager to see how God will continue to work in and through us.
Maudilio just celebrated his birthday! We had a peaceful and joyful day celebrating at home together, and then I surprised him with a little party in Aceituno. It turned out to be so much fun! The kids in Aceituno absolutely adore Maudilio, and it’s always such a blessing to be able to celebrate him and create special memories with everyone there. And, of course, it’s always great to have a reason to treat the kids to cake!
We have a well!
The well is complete!!! After over a year of planning and discussions, God, Maudilio, and his team have made this vision a reality! We’re so grateful for their hard work and faithfulness in seeing this project through.
While the well itself is finished, we still need to conduct a test to determine how many gallons per minute we can pump from it. The technician who will be conducting the test is currently busy drilling another well, so we’re waiting for him to be available. However, we are confident that we have found a strong and reliable water source.
With the well drilled, our focus now shifts to the next steps. We need to purchase water tanks, install the pump, and find a high-quality filtration system. Additionally, we’ve discovered that the room on our property, which will be used as a kitchen and the water filtration room, may not have been constructed well enough to support a concrete roof. This means we may need to tear it down and rebuild it to ensure it can safely hold the weight. While this will be an additional cost, we trust that if we don’t have enough funds to cover it, God will provide through the generosity of others.
So, while the well is complete, there is still a lot of work ahead of us! We’re excited to see how this project continues to unfold, and we’re so grateful for the support and prayers of everyone involved.
